Harvey Somers Barling was born in 1890. He was the son of James and Mary Barling.
Harvey enlisted in the military in 1941 at Narromine and according to his enlistment papers, Harvey provided a date of birth of 26 Jan 1901 to reduce his age to 40 years, when in fact he was born in 1890 (actually 51 years). It seems from his service record he was trained as a mechanic attached to Head Quarters - AIF (?M E) in various roles including work with the Red Cross. During his service he spent 545 days outside of Australia (?M E). When discharged from military service 21st November 1943, he was attached to 1 Employment Company. Discharged as medically unfit his last issue being an infected contusion of his leg.
He passed away in 1972 and is buried at the Narromine General Cemetery.
