Biography
Violet Baptist is a part of US Black heritage.
Violet's year of birth is estimated based on the fact that she, along with her mother, Priscilla, and her sisters, Nanny and Nelly, were all included in the will of Edward Baptist Jr, written on 18 September 1797.[1]
In Edward's will, he loaned Priscilla, Nelly, Nanny, and Violet to his daughter, Mary F. Green. Upon Mary's death, if she had children, Priscilla and her three daughters Nelly, Nanny, and Violet were to be divided among them. If Mary had no children, then Priscilla and her three daughters Nelly, Nanny, and Violet were to be divided amongst the children of Edward Baptist Jr's daughter, Rachel.
Item I lend to my Daughter Mary F. Green four negroes named Priscilla and three of her Daughters Nelly, Nanny and Violet and if she should leave any children I give the said negroes to be divided among them, but if she should leave no children I give the aforesaid Negroes to be divided among my Daughter Rachel's children.
The date of Violet's death is unknown at the time of this writing. She likely died in Virginia, as the Baptist family continued to reside there well into the 1800s.
