Biography

William (usually known as Bill) was born in London, England, United Kingdom during 1917. He is the son of Charles Tasman Percy Ballard and Edith Alice Makepeace, He passed away in South Australia during 1992.

William was born in London, England on 10 May 1917.[1]

William served in the Australian Army during the Second World War. He enlisted in Kelvin Grove, Queensland, Australia on 12 June 1940. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant with a posting in the 2/15 Australian Infantry Battalion.[1]

William married Jean Boord in Maylands, South Australia on 2 September 1944. The following 'Approaching Marriages' notice was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Advertiser, on 31 August 1944:[2]

BOORD—BALLARD.—The marriage of Jean, younger daughter of Mrs. and late Mr. A. E. Boord, of Stepney, to William, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Ballard. Queensland, at Maylands Methodist Church. September 2, 5.45 p.m.

William died in South Australia on 20 May 1992.[3]

William's remains were cremated at the Centennial Park Cemetery in Pasadena, South Australia on 22 May 1992.[4]

  1. William's two middle names appeared in several sources including the Engagement notice published in the South Australian newspaper, The Advertiser, on 16 June 1943 where they appear as initials.[5]
