Biography
Edward was born about 1835 in Tennessee. He married Sylvester C Jenkins on 22 April 1860. In 1863 he joined the 9th Tennessee Cavalry and was captured in his home county on May 26 1863. He was taken to the Alton Military Prison on June 29. He died of smallpox on 20 August. He is on both the Small Pox Island and the Alton Confederate Cemetery Monuments, but it is uncertain where he was buried.

Research Notes
Note: both monuments have him listed as being in Bell's Arkansas. But the intake records (the first records made) at the Prison have him in the 9th Tennessee, company E. Still hunting for the source of the error--probably occurred in transcription into the Register of Confederates and Civilians Who Died in the North. But the fact he was captured in his home county supports the 9th Tennessee.
