"Rashel Baker" was born into an early Lancashire Quaker family on 23 April 1669 at Hindley, Lancashire, England to father Henry Baker and his wife Margaret Hardman Baker. [1] Her parents were married at Hardshaw, Lancashire, England on 6 Oct 1667 [translated from 6 August]. [2] Hindley is about 15 miles distance from Hardshaw. Both are very near Wigan. Hindley (Hindelegh) town (urban district) borders the towns of Ince-in-Makerfield, Aspull, Westhoughton, Atherton and the former borough of Leigh. It forms the part of greater manchester Urban area. [3] Rachel Baker's birth of 23 April 1669 to father Henry Baker is also recorded in the Hardshaw East area records. [4] (Hardshaw Monthly Meeting at this time had not split into Hardshaw East and Hardshaw West.)

"Only four daughters are recorded above as having accompanied Henry and his family to America, but a fifth one, Sarah, probably also came with him then, though she may possibly have come a few years later when he visited England." "Rachel Baker, daughter of Henry of Bucks county, married 1st Job Bunting [4 27 1689] 27 April 1689 at Langhorne, Bucks, Pennsylvania." [7] [8]
By 1703 Rachel was widowed and married 2nd John Cowgill of Newtown Township, Bucks county, Pennsylvania. They married in 1703 at Middletown Meeting. John Cowgill was the son of Ellen Cowgill, widow, who arrived on the "Welcome" with William Penn, and who settled in Bucks county. [9]
Job Bunting Family
The pioneer ancestors of the Bunting family of America were 3 sons and a grandson of Anthony & Ellen Bunting, of Matlock, Derbyshire, England, the former of whom was born in Derbyshire, 1600 and who d. at Matlock, 4 Jan 1700, his wife following him in death 1 Sep 1700. They were the parents of 6 children, 4 sons & 2 daughters. The daughters married and settled in Nottinghamshire. The sons, John, William, Samuel and Job came to early New Jersey 1678. [10]

Rachel Baker, dau of Henry & Margaret [Hardman] Baker and was b. hindley, West Darbye, Lancashire, on 23 Apr 1669 and who came to Bucks county with her parents in 1684. Henry Baker, was a prominent Friend in Lancashire and suffered persecution there for his principles. After coming to Bucks county he became one of the most prominent men in the colony and served as provincial councillor and member of assembly for several years, as well as filling many other high official positions in the county and province. Henry baker had m. 2nd in 1692, Mary Radcliffe, widow of James and had 10 children, nine by her 1st m. to James Radcliffe. Her 10th child was by Henry Baker. [10]
Job Bunting, on his 2nd m. located in Bucks county, on land conveyed to him by his father-in-law, and later purchased considerable other land in Bucks & Chester counties. Job Bunting d. in 1703, and Rachel (Baker) Bunting m. 2nd John Cowgill. [10]
