Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Burtes Bailey is a part of US Black heritage.

Burtes was born in 1913. He was the son of Robert Bailey and Ella May Cofield.

Burtes served as a staff sergeant for the 370th Infantry 92nd Division during World War II. He was killed on 15 September 1944 and was buried at Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, Florence, Città Metropolitana di Firenze, Toscana, Italy.[1] There is also a monument for him at the family site in the Edgemont City Cemetery in Edgemont, South Dakota. Burtes was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.[2][3]
