Augustin Aucoin was born in 1789, in Pointe Coupee, Louisiana, the oldest child of Gregoire Alexis Aucoin and Marguerite Genevieve Aucoin. Both his parents were Acadians born in exile, in France.

In 1810, at the age of 21, he married Henriette Gautrot, in Plattenville, Louisiana. They had 8 children:
