Biography

1776 Project
Private Abial Atwood served with 14th Massachusetts Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Abial Atwood was born at Berkley, Massachusetts, 9 Feb 1756, the son of Abial Atwood and Hannah Babbitt; [1] had Revolutionary War service, enlisting for a three-year term, 12 Feb 1777, in the company of his soon-to-be brother-in-law, Capt. Ebenezer Redding, Col. Gamaliel Bradford's regiment, serving until 31 Dec 1779, [2] and again for a six-month term, 7 Jul 1780, in Capt. Dix's company, Lt. Col. John Brooks' (7th) regiment of the Massachusetts line; [3] removed after the War, with his sister, Abigail (Atwood) Redding and her husband, to Oxford, Massachusetts. [4] [5]
