Biography

Jesse Joseph Atkins was born on May 8, 1911 in Canton, Cherokee, Georgia, United States, son of Perry Calvin Atkins (1882–1964) and Ada Florence Davis (1886–1977).

In 1920, Jesse (9) was living in household of Parry Atkins (38) in Canton, Cherokee with his parents, Parry (38) and Ada (35); and his siblings, Thomston (15), Hubert (11), Arthur (3), and Lecy (1). ^[1]

In 1930, Jesse (19)'s occupation was 'messenger'. He was living in household of Parry Adkins (46) at 200 Clay Street, Militia District 898 with his parents, Parry (46) and Ada (42); his siblings, Arthur (15), Mary L (12), and Carrie M (10); and J M Davis (75), and Mary L Davis (75). ^[2]

Jesse registered for the draft for World War II. ^[3]

In 1950, Jesse (39) was living in Atlanta, Fulton with his wife, Alberta (33); and their children, Jessie Joe (14), Mary Ann (12), and Barbara Alice (9). ^[4]

Jesse died on December 18, 1966 in Fulton, aged 55. He was buried in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.^[5]
