Biography

Joseph Arth was born in 1845. He was the son of Philip Arth.

Joseph was a member of the United States Marine Band for 30 years.

According to his wife's 1940 obituary in the Baltimore Evening Star, Joseph "was the drummer in the pit at Ford’s Theater the night President Lincoln was assassinated.”

Joseph married Henrietta Scala, the daughter of one-time Marine Band leader, Francis Scala.

Joseph passed away in 1923.
