William Armstrong (abt. 1815 - abt. 1850)

Biography

William was born between 1810 and 1818 (married without consent in 1839). In 1839, when he was over the age of 21, he married Mary Holdren.^[1] In 1840, William and Mary, both between the ages of 20-30, were living in Albany, Hocking Township, Athens County, Ohio. They had no children in the home, and William was a "Learned Professional."^[2] They had two children:

1. Emily Jane Armstrong (1840)
2. Joseph Armstrong (1841)

Research Notes

This is NOT William Armstrong, son of Thomas Armstrong, one of the first settlers of Athens County, Ohio. Thomas's son William was born in 1799 in Pennsylvania. This William was born between 1810-1819, as shown in the 1840 Census. (above)

Wife Mary passed away in 1843. In 1850 and 1860, their children were living with her parents in Athens County, Ohio. William does not appear to be buried with Mary at Minar Cemetery, nor is there any marriage record in Athens County to indicate that he remarried there before 1850. Either he was also deceased before 1850, or he had moved away, leaving the children in the care of his in-laws. There is no further trace. (Kirch-132 18:22, 2 January 2021 (UTC))
