Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Maud (Appo) Lafollette is a part of US Black heritage.

Maud Albertine (also known as Enid) Appo was born in 1872 in New York City. She is the daughter of William Appo and Albertine Epps.[1] Her father died in 1880. She was raised in rural North Elba in upstate New York.[2][3]

She married Irvin D. Follett on 15 January 1908 in Los Angeles, California. The marriage act contains errors, listing her as "Mahia", 15 years younger as she really was, and born in "India".[4][5]

In 1920, "Enid" was living with her husband in Fresno, California. Again the record contains errors: she is listed as 35 years old (she was 48), white, and born in France to French parents. She was a music teacher.[6] Her occupation is consistent with her father having been a noted musician, and William Appo had Haitian origins and could speak French.

She died in San Francisco on 6 May 1946.[7] She was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.[8]
