Biography

Wales and the Britons, 350-1064
Volume 1, p. 253.

Caradog ap Gruffydd [1] believed born in Gwynllwg[2] was a Prince of Gwent[3] in south-east Wales, who reunified his family's inheritance of Morgannwg [4] and made repeated attempts to reunite southern Wales by claiming the inheritance of the Kingdom of Deheubarth.[5]

Research Notes

An unsourced duplicate profile created by the Wales project (with correct LNAB) had unlikely dates: "Caradog was born in 1028. Caradog Ap Rhydderch ... He passed away in 1135." That profile had birth/death in Monmouthshrie, Wales.[6] These locations were dropped in the merge in favor of the sourced birth location of "Gwynllwg" (and no death location). Perhaps the duplicate profile was intended to be the son of Rhydderch named Caradog who died in 1035?[7]

This profile was intended to represent Caradog ap Gruffudd, son of Gruffudd (grandson of Rhydderch):

"Caradog ap Gruffydd (died 1081) was a Prince of Gwent in south-east Wales in the time of Gruffydd ap Llywelyn and the Norman conquest.... Caradog was the grandson of the King of Glywysing, Rhydderch ab Iestyn.... Caradog's father Gruffydd ap Rhydderch... was said to be a powerful king who stoutly resisted raids by the Danes and attacks by Gruffydd ap Llywelyn. However in 1055 Gruffydd ap Llywelyn killed him in battle".[8]

As such, this profile was detached as son of Rhydderch ap Iestyn (0995-1033), which is an apparent duplicate of Rhydderch ap Iestyn (abt.0985-abt.1033). ~ Noland-165 23:29, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
