Biography

Richard was born in the Daly Region of South Australia in 1867. parents being Henry Angwin & Nanny/Ann Grenfell

Richard has known siblings they being, Henry , Mary Ann, James, Thomas, John, Frances Jane, Edward, Eunice and James Henry. All where born in the Daly region of South Australia.

1875 Richard would have been about 8 years old when his father and eldest brother where badly hurt in a Mine accident in the Hughes Shaft, at the Wallaroo Mine. Henry jnr, would have been about 14/15 years old, and suffered with terrible burns to his body, back, face, and arms. Henry snr. was also burnt around the arms and his face to the extent of him being disfigured. It was recorded that the burns were Severe. Sadly Richard's brother Henry did not survive he died shorty after the incident.

1877 Another tragedy brother James, age about 9 years, Is Accidentally killed. As reported in the The Areas Express, South Australia. "A lad named James Angwin was killed at Kadina on Thursday, May 17. He was jumping from the ore trucks on the Railway Line whilst in motion, and fell under the wheels, which passed over him. An inquest was held, and a verdict of accidental death returned. No, blame was attached to the driver of the trucks.".

1879 Exactly 4 years after the accident at the Hughes Shaft at Wallaroo, Richard's father Henry age 37 was killed by a " fall of earth" at the Kurilla Mine.

Richard's mother Ann and her 6 children would have no doubt gone through some very tough times.

It looks as if the family leave the Daly Region S.A. for Broken Hill. N.S.W.

1883 His sister Mary Ann marries John Rowe in Victoria,

1891 Another sister Frances Jane (Fanny) marries William Henry Scadden in Broken Hill

1896 Sister Eunice died in Melbourne Victoria of acute pneumonia.

1902 Brother, John (Jack) marries Mary Barber in Broken Hill.

1911 His brother James Henry ( Harry) died in a Mine accident at the Eclipse Mine Boulder, Kalgoorlie W.A

Some of the family mother Ann included leave Broken Hill for Western Australia, I am not sure if they went to Kalgoorlie first then possibly after the death of her son James the family move on to Perth.

1917 Richards mother Ann at the residence of her son, 19 Farmer Street, North Perth, relict of the late Henry Angwin and fond mother of Mr. W. Scaddon, Mr. J. Rowe (of Victoria), Richard, Thomas, John, and Edward Angwin. died aged 74 years.

His mother Ann was buried in the Kalgoorlie Cemetery with her son, James Henry.

Reported in the Kalgoorlie Miner, Tu 8 Feb 1921, page 5 :

ELDERLY MAN'S DEATH - Perth, Feb. 7. While an elderly man named Richard Angwin, formerly of Kalgoorlie and Boulder, was standing on the jetty at Applecross last night he took a fit and fell into the river. Constable Chandler immediately dived in and brought him to the shore, but life was extinct.

1921 Probates and Administrations, as recorded in the The West Australian Perth, WA, Thur, 17 Mar 1921, page 9. "Richard Angwin late of Perth to Thomas Angwin, Fremantle £2,540.

Richard was also buried with his mother and brother James Henry at the Kalgoorlie Cemetery.
