Biography

Ireland Native
John Andrews was born in Ireland.

John Andrews was born in about 1720 (based on his parents' marriage date of 1719), the eldest son of Maunsell Andrews of Rathenny, and his wife Elizabeth Toler, daughter of Nicholas Toler of Beechwood (Tipperary).

He married in 1753, Emilia Nicholson (the daughter of Christopher Nicholson of Balrath, County Meath and Elinor Pepper, the only daughter of Simeon Pepper of Ballygarth).

They went on to have children:

  1. Elizabeth Andrews (m. Feb. 1787 at Birr, Offaly, Corker Wright [d. 1828] of Rutland, Shinrone, County Offaly, and had issue)
  2. Eleanor Andrews (m. 7 Feb 1777, Capt. Simon Pepper of the 14th Light Dragoons)
  3. Mary Andrews (m. 1807 George Lodge)
  4. Amelia Andrews (b. abt. 1761, m. 1806 Richard Lysaght)

His wife Emilia probably passed away before 1766.

John married, secondly in 1766, Ann Jones (the daughter of Humphrey Jones of Mullinabro, County Kilkenny). They had the following children:

  1. John Andrews (Educated at Trinity College, Dublin (admitted 1785); died without issue)
  2. Maunsell Andrews (b. abt. 1769, d. 2 Jul 1864)
  3. Humphrey Andrews (lost at sea; died without issue)
  4. Christopher Andrews (died without issue)
  5. George Andrews (died without issue)
  6. Anna Maria Andrews (m. 1797, Vincent Lamb of Kilcoleman Park)
  7. Sarah Andrews (m. 1801, Humphrey Denis)
  8. Rebecca Andrews (m. 1801/4 Trevor Lloyd Blunden [c.1776-1854] of Ballyduggan and had issue, d. 1864)

He inherited the Rathenny estate in King's County upon the death of his father Maunsell on 24 February 1769.

His date of death is unknown, but was some time after 1769 and before 1806.

Research Notes

John Andrews may have passed away on 21 October 1798. There is a headstone in Ballymackey Graveyard in the village of Ballymackey, on the main Nenagh to Toomevera Road, the inscription on which reads:
