Biography

Elizabeth (Andrews) Blaney immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Elizabeth Andrews was baptized at St James Garlickhithe, London, England, 8 May 1632,[citation needed] the daughter of Samuel Andrews, dyer, and his wife Jane.[1][2]

It seems unlikely that Elizabeth would be the spouse of Thomas Purchase who was some 50 years older than she, but according to the Blaney source http://www.keithblayney.com/Blayney/Blaney.html#EP she indeed was. I will assume it to be correct until proven otherwise.

Elizabeth first married Richard Pike of Newbury, Massachusetts, She married (2) about 1657 (estimated birth of child), Thomas Purchase as his second wife.[3] She married (3) John Blaney in November 1678 at Lynn.[4]

Immigration

She immigrated with her parents and siblings aboard the Increase in 1635. then aged 2.[5]

Family

Richard and Elizabeth (Andrews) Pike were the parents of one child,[6]

  1. Samuel Pike, born say 1654 (after his mother married Richard Pike, and before she married Thomas Purchase).

Thomas and Elizabeth (Andrews) (Pike) Purchase were the parents of five children,[7]

  1. Thomas Purchase was born about 1657; married Elizabeth Williams at Salem on December 3, 1679.
  2. Jane Purchase was born about 1663, died at Lynn aged 53 on September 26, 1716; married Oliver Elkins by 1683.
  3. Elizabeth Purchase was born about 1665; married John Blaney Jr. at Marblehead on December 20, 1683.
  4. Abraham Purchase was born about 1667; married Ruth Williams by about 1695. She was included in the will of John Williams of Salem as his daughter.
  5. Sarah Purchase was born about 1669; she married William Bartlett at Marblehead on December 27, 1688. (Please don't confuse her with Sarah Purchase, daughter of Aquila Purchase who married Gamaliel Phippen.)

Hoping someone with an Ancestry.com subscription might improve the inline citation "by subscription https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/1624/31281_a101767-00150?pid=7263191" of 2019, so that it includes record title, etc. Assuming we haven't otherwise identified a more accessible source, then pretty please, a sharing link?--Gene

Thank you again, Christopher,

Something isn't right

Ancestry sharing has record transcription as "Jane Andrewes was born, the daughter of Jane and Samuell. She was baptized on March 7, 1629." but profile reports, "Elizabeth Andrews was baptized at St James Garlickhithe, London, England, 8 May 1632."

I see her FamilyTree pid has an index only entry for the 13 May 1632 baptism at St James Garlickhithe giving the parents names as Samuell Androwes and Jane. See "England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975", database, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J39S-TXY : 4 February 2023), Elizabeth Androwes, 1632.

Might there be another baptism at Ancestry? --Gene

For her parentage and immigration, see Robert Charles Anderson, The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England 1620-1633, Volumes I-III, 3 vols. (1995), 1529-1534 (Thomas Purchase), at 1532; digital images by subscription, AmericanAncestors, citing "Hotten 60."

Separately, Anderson writes, "The best account of Thomas Purchase and his family was prepared in 1982 by Robert J. Dunkle as part of his research into the family of Samuel Andrews, father of Purchase's second wife [TG 3:52-54]." Note: "TG" is TG is otherwise, The Genealogist, publication by American Society of Genealogists.

Edited to add: Additional sources,

Thanks Gene. There is currently a saved draft of the profile so I have not done it yet, but when the current editing is complete I suggest we substitute this open source for the Ancestry.com citation in the profile.

yes, the marriage does seem unlikely, yet R. C. Anderson in his "Great Migration Begins" says she was indeed his wife and the mother of all his children.

See Purchase-2 for a newly created biography and a list of their children.
