Keith Andes is Notable.
Born John Charles Andes, Keith Andes was an American film, radio, musical theater, stage and television actor. He earned the Theatre World Award for the outstanding breakout performance of 1947 in "The Chocolate Soldier."
He worked at RKO and Universal, where he appeared as Marilyn Monroe's sweetheart and Barbara Stanwyck's brother in Clash by Night in 1952. He also played Lt Maynard in Blackbeard, The Pirate in 1952. He co-starred with Angela Landsbury in A Life at Stake in 1954 and was one of the several male leads in The Second Greatest Sex in 1955 at Universal. He also appeared on many television shows, including Celebrity Playhouse, The Ford Television Theatre, Matinee Theatre and the Loretta Young Show. Another noteworthy television role was Akuta in the "Star Trek" episode The Apple.
On Broadway, he starred opposite Lucille Ball in the musical Wildcat, which ran for 175 performances in 1960 and 1961. His last performance was in 1980 when he appeared in the TV movie Blinded by the Light.[1]
He married Jean Alice Cotton on 30 Nov 1946 (to 1961) in Upper Darby, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA..[3] Their wedding announcement appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer:[4]
"The marriage of Miss Jean A. Cotton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl G. Cotton, of Canandaigua, N.Y., to Mr. John Charles Andes, son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Andes, of Town House, 19th and Spruce Sts. and Los Angeles, took place on Nov. 30, in Beverly Hills United Presbyterian Church, Upper Darby. Rev. Roy Grace officiated."
Jean and Keith were divorced in 1961.
He married the actress Shelah Hackett in 1961 in Manhattan, New York City. [5] Shelah was appearing with Keith in the Broadway show Wildcat with Lucille Ball at the time of their marriage:[6]
"Miss Ball appeared at the curtain call with Shelah Hackett, the chorus girl who pinch-hit for her during the remainder of the performance. Miss Hackett is the wife of the show's leading man, Keith Andes."
He died 11 November 2005 in Santa Clarita, Los Angeles, California at the age of 85.[7][8]
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Keith Andes, Marilyn Monroe's leading man in the 1952 film "Clash by Night," was found dead Nov. 11. He was 85.
Andes had suffered from bladder cancer and other ailments. He was found dead in his Santa Clarita home, said longtime friend Marshall LaPlante. The Los Angeles County coroner's office ruled the death a suicide.
The actor, known for a comforting baritone, appeared in about 20 movies, including playing one of the brothers in "The Farmer's Daughter" (1947) and Gen. George C. Marshall in "Tora! Tora! Tora!" (1970).
On television, he was an amateur sleuth on "Glynis," a 1963 CBS sitcom in which Glynis Johns played his wife. He had guest appearances on more than 40 shows, many of them westerns.
He earned the Theatre World Award for the outstanding breakout performance of 1947 in "The Chocolate Soldier" and later starred in "Kiss Me Kate."
