Biography
Salmon Alvord, born 14 Jan 1803 at Westhampton, Massachusetts, was the second child of Sarah (Barker) Alvord (1777-1863) and Isaac Alvord (1779-1848).
He married first, in October 1828 at Westhampton, Melinda Shaw [b. 11 Dec 1807, Westhampton, daughter of Asa Shaw & Mehitable (Beswick); d. 7 Mar 1830] They had one child who died in infancy.
Salmon Alvord married second, 23 Sep 1831 at Westhampton, Massachusetts, Nancy Pittsinger [b. 4 Jul 1814, Westhampton, daughter of William & Sarah (Whitcomb) Pettsinger; d. 3 Feb 1892]; 6 children:
- Lucina Alvord, b. 24 Apr 1833; unmarried; d. 6 Feb 1854
- Sarah Melinda Alvord (1835-1881), b. 24 Mar 1835; married William Elhanan Spooner
- Ellen Samantha Alvord (1836-1917), b. 13 Aug 1836; married 1 Jul 1879 Samuel Winthrop Sleight; no children
