Biography

Private William Allison served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: August 15, 1864
Mustered out: Captured and held prisoner until war end

Bill was born on 18 Sep 1842 in North Carolina. He was a son of John Allison and Sarah H. "Sallie" Burnett. Before 1860, he had moved with his family to Sevier County, Tennessee.[1]

On 15 Aug 1864, Bill enlisted as a Private in the Union Army. He was attached to Company M, 9th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry. He was captured on 13 Nov 1864 at Morristown, Tennessee, and held prisoner at Bell Island until war end.[2][3]

On 25 Dec 1870, he married Frances Caroline Emory. [4]They made their home in Blount County, Tennessee, and had six children:[5][6]

  2. Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth (1875-1938)
  3. Mary Bell (1878-1968)
  4. William Oscar (1881-1957)
  5. Finley Guy (1886-1938)
  6. Vina L. (1889-1961)

Bill and Caroline lived out their days in Blount County. He passed away on 16 Jan 1928, and was buried beside Caroline in Four Mile Cemetery, Maryville, Blount County, Tennessee.[7]
