Thomas “Manus” Allen was born in 1867, Chambers County, Alabama to Sam and Ann Allen. Thomas born immediately following the Civil War and Emancipation, was born free. Thomas’s family continued to live and work as sharecroppers near the Allen plantation until the early 1880s when they migrated to Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas. [1] Thomas passed away of uncertain circumstances in 1886 and was laid to rest at the family plot in St. John's Cemetery.
