Algernon (or Alger) "Texas" Alexander was a singer credited with being the "father of the Texas Blues". He made over 69 recordings as "Texas" Alexander from the late 1920's to the early 1950's and played with many top Blues artists of that era.
Alger was born in 1900 in Jewett, Leon County, Texas. According to his death certificate, his parents were Sam Alexander and Jennie Brooks. He passed away in 1954 in Richards, Texas and was buried in Longstreet Cemetery in Montgomery County, Texas.
There is an Artie Alexander in Leon County census records for 1900, 1910 and 1920. Parents listed are King and Julie E. Alexander. There is a WWI draft card for Artie that lists DOB as 14 Apr 1900 instead of Sep 1900.
