Biography

Dorothy was baptised at Alkborough, Lincolnshire in 1836. She was the daughter of Alexander Aitken and Eleanora Forman.^[1][2]

At the 1851 census she lived with her sister Martha Aitken at Great Munden, Hertfordshire.^[3]

At the 1861 census Dorothy had returned to Lincolnshire. She boarded with the Everitt family while working as a schoolmistress.^[4] At the 1871 census she was living at Malham, Yorkshire, still working as a schoolmistress.^[5]

Dorothy married William Bilsborough at St Paul, York, Yorkshire in 1871.^[6][7] Witnesses were Dorothy's sister Ann Exelby and brother-in-law William Exelby.^[8]

Dorothy and William lived at Fulford, Yorkshire.^[9]

William passed away in 1884, Dorothy lived at York, Yorkshire with her son Albert at the 1901 census.^[10][11]

At the 1921 census Dorothy lived at York with her niece Annie Exelby.^[12]

She passed away in 1924.^[13][14][15]

Dorothy left a will^[14] leaving her estate to her son Albert Aitken Bilsborough, bookseller and stationer.
