Elizabeth Aisbitt (aka Aisbit, Aisbett, etc) was born in 1848 in Philadelphia or Newbottle, Durham, England the daughter of Hannah Aisbitt. Her birth was registered in Houghton Le Spring, Durham in the first quarter of the year, with no mother's maiden name (indicating an unmarried mother).[1]
In 1851 Elizabeth Aisbitt (age 3) lived in Newbottle with her uncle Peter Tate (46, Waggonman), aunt Elizabeth Tate [nee Aisbitt] (40), four Tate cousins: George (18, Wagonman), Isabella (6, Scholar), Jane A (4), and Peter (0), grandmother Ann Aisbitt (71), and mother Hannah Aisbitt (36).[2]
In 1861 Elizabeth Aisbitt (age 13, Scholar) lived at Philadelphia near Newbottle with her uncle Peter Yate [Tate] (55, Labourer), aunt Elizabeth [Tate] (51), two cousins: Isabella (16, Agricultural Labourer) and Peter (10, Scholar), grandmother Ann Aisbitt (82), and mother Hannah Aisbitt (46).[3]
In 1871 Elizabeth Tate [Aisbitt] (age 23) lived in Philadelphia with her aunt Elizabeth Tate (61), mother Hannah Aisbett (59, Labourer), cousin Peter Tate (20, Stoker), three cousins-once-removed [Elizabeth Tate's grandchildren]: John Tate (14, Coal Miner), Ralph Tate (12, Coal Miner), and George Tate (8, Scholar), another cousin of some sort [Elizabeth Tate's nephew] John Dawson (0), and visitor William Wales (22, Coal Miner).[4] [Elizabeth is mistakenly listed as the daughter of Elizabeth Tate, rather than her niece.]
Elizabeth Aisbitt married William Wales in 1872. The marriage was registered in Houghton Le Spring in the second quarter of the year.[5]
In 1881 Elizabeth Wales (age 33) lived at 40 Railway Terr in Herrington West, Durham with her husband William (32, Coalminer) and three children: Mary H (8, Scholar), Dora (4), and William (0), as well as her mother Hannah [Aisbett] (66).[6]
In 1891 Elizabeth Wales (age 43) lived at 40 Railway Terrace in West Herrington with her husband William (41, Coal Miner) and five children: Mary H (18, Out Door Work), Dora (13), William (10, Scholar), Alexander (7, Scholar), and Florence A (2), as well as her mother Hannah Aisbet (74) and niece Jane Wales (18).[7]
In 1901 Elizabeth Wales (age 53) lived at 40 Railway Terrace in West Herrington with her husband William (52, Coalminer Shifter) and four children: William (20, Coalminer Putter), Alexander (17, Coalminer Labourer Under Ground), Dora (23), and Florence (12).[8]
In 1911 Elizabeth Wales (age 62) lived at 28 Langley Street in West Herrington with her husband William (60, Miner Rollyway Man), son Alexander (27, Coal Miner), and daughter Florence Ann (22).[9]
Elizabeth Wales passed away in 1916, aged 68 years. Her death was registered in Houghton Le Spring in the second quarter of the year.[10]
