James was widowed and a retired undertaker, living at 419 Oakland, Martin, Weakley, Tennessee, when he passed away at the age of 90.[1]
He died on 7 March 1940 in Martin, Weakley County, Tennessee, United States and he is buried in the East Side Cemetery in Martin.[1]
