Biography

George Abel was born 19 Apr 1867 in Old Machar, son of Robert Abel and Isabella Crawford. In the 1871 census, George, age 3, was living with his parents and siblings Isabella, Elizabeth and Robert and two boarders at 60 Skene St in Old Machar. In the 1881 census George, age 13 was living with his parents and siblings Isabella, Robert and Jane and two boarders at 10 Elmvale St in Glasgow.

George, a 26 year old Coachbuilder Journeyman, married Jeannie Alexander, a 21 year old Weaver at the Damask Factory, on 28 Sep 1894 at Beveridgewell in Dumferline, Fife. Witnesses were Robert Abel and LIzzie Alexander. George and Jeannie had no children. In the 1901 census George 32 and Jeanie 28 are living at 34 Gourlay St in Glasgow.

George died 18 Aug 1914, age 45, at the Addington Hospital in Durban, South Africa. He died of Enteric Fever and Toxaemia. His usual residence was Sea View near Durban. He was a Carriage Builder. He was buried in Stamford Hill per the death record but he is shown buried at the Sighthill Cemetery in Glasgow according to FindAGrave. His body could have been moved or the one in Glasgow is where the family gravestone is with his name inscribed.
