Biography

1776 Project
Militiaman John Abbott served with Kentucky County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

John was born in Virginia sometime between 1740 and 1750 in Culpeper, Virginia.[1] in Culpeper County, Virginia.[2][citation needed]

He appears on the rolls of the Illinois Virginia Regiment commanded by General George Rogers Clark in 1780 indicating that he had migrated to Kentucky by that date.[1]

John was married to Margaret Spangler sometime after 1782. Her first husband William Spangler was killed and scalped by Indians in 1782.[1]
