Biography

Birth

William "Bill" Abbott was born at Port Royal, Cumberland County, Massachusetts (later the town of Livermore, Maine) on 10 Aug 1793, the son of Hull Abbott and his second wife, Anna, who is claimed to be Hannah Wing.^[1]

Marriage

The records of marriages and marriage intentions of Livermore, Maine have two marriage intentions for a William, or Bill Abbott. There is no record of more than one man by that name living at Livermore in the period, so they are probably for the same man, If that is the case, then either the marriage to Mary Randall never took place, or she died soon after the marriage. The records are:

1. On 3 Dec 1812, Bill Abbott and Mary Randall, both of Livermore, Maine (then in Masachusetts), published at Livermore their intention to marry.^[2]
2. On 10 Oct 1815, William Abbott of Livermore, Maine, and Patience Robinson of Bath, Maine, (both towns were then in Massachusetts) published at Livermore their intention to marry.^[3]

William Abbott married Patience Robinson at Bath on 30 Nov 1815.^[4]

Career

Rev. William Abbott was a Free-Will Baptist preacher.^[5]

Death

A gravestone at the East New Portland Cemetery in New Portland, Maine, says that Rev. William Abbott died on 16 Jul 1877 at the age of 84.^[6]
