Biography

ISAAC ABBOTT, b. at Windham, 29 Aug 1732 son of Paul Abbot and Elizabeth Gray;[1] d. at Milford, NH about 1800;[2] m. at Pomfret, 29 Apr 1756,[3] MARY BARKER, b. at Rumford (Concord), NH, 23 Nov 1735[4] daughter of William and Martha (Ingalls) Barker.[5]

Isaac Abbott was a farmer. He was born in Pomfret and there married Mary Barker who was resident of Pomfret at the time of the marriage. The births of their first seven children are recorded at Pomfret, but there is also a recording of these births at Princeton, Massachusetts. The young family left Pomfret by 1769, were for a time in Princeton where they were early settlers recorded there in 1769,[6] and finally settled in Milford, New Hampshire where they were about 1778.[7]

Isaac Abbott served as a private in the company of Col. Stickney during the Revolutionary War.[8]


Children

Isaac Abbott and Mary Barker had twelve children, the oldest seven recorded at Pomfret, the births of four children recorded at Princeton, and the youngest child whose birthplace is unknown. This youngest child died in Milford.

i MARY ABBOTT, b. at Pomfret, 20 Jan 1757; d. at Lyme, NH, 8 Sep 1849; m. 9 Dec 1778, her first cousin, LEMUEL HOLT, b. at Windham, 28 Feb 1756 son of Joshua and Mary (Abbott) Holt; Lemuel d. 1 Aug 1836.

ii HANNAH ABBOTT, b. at Pomfret, 2 Aug 1758; d. at Stoddard, NH, 9 Mar 1847; m. at Amherst, NH, 25 May 1781, ISRAEL TOWNE, b. at Stoddard, NH, 17 Jun 1761 son of Israel and Lydia (Hopkins) Towne; Israel d. 2 May 1848.

iii CHLOE ABBOTT, b. at Pomfret, 7 Aug 1760; d. at Lyme, 1835. Chloe is reported to have married twice, but the name of her first husband has not been found. She m. 2nd, about 1801, WILLIAM PORTER, b. 1761 son of William and Esther (Carpenter) Porter. William was a widower with several children, his wife Phebe Kingsbury having died in 1800. William d. 3 Mar 1847. Chloe did not have children.

viii FIDELIA ABBOTT, b. at Princeton, 29 May 1770.

ix OLIVE ABBOTT, b. at Princeton, 28 Oct 1772. It is possible that she married Isaac Parker 6 Feb 1794 at Amherst. The Olive Abbott that married Isaac was of Milford and she died 2 Jan 1862 at age 89 which fits for this Olive. Isaac Parker was b. at Monson, NH, 2 Mar 1769 son of Josiah and Hannah (Parkis) Parker.
