" Memo, Feb 16 / 49: The two old portraits sent to Ann and me by Aunt Gretchen (Boston) in 1947 are of Joseph and Mary Watson who were born in England in 1778 and 1781 respectively. They had two children, the first being born in England in 1806 and the second born in Connecticut USA in 1808. [ note: 8 other children are listed on the sampler by Elizabeth Watson, their daughter, which must have come along later, after the portraits ] They moved from England to USA in 1807. At the time we received portraits in 1947 they were probably about 140 years old.
