After Timothy Munson and his family migrated from Connecticut to Pownal, Vermont, he ran a tavern/inn. The inn was also known as the Mallory House. It stood near the road leading to the Pownal Elementary School. Built as a hotel by Timothy Munson around 1788, it also served as headquarters for a horse company that drilled before and during the War of 1812. Many units of the Massachusetts militia, travelling to and from Bennington, stopped there. The building was torn down around 1908.
