I believe I am a descendent of Reverend Henry Necessary who died in Russell County in 1845. A family story passed down through the oral tradition was that our name was originally Essary. I have no documentary proof of this. The burning question is, why did he change his name from Essary to Necessary? Where was he born or spent his early life?
The family story is: The David Nelson Necessary branch of the family who moved from Russell County to the west coast in the latter part of the 19th cen [edit] | |

Gary Essary
Spelling used by almost all patrilineal descendants of Thomas (1755) Essary; also by patrilineal descendants of William Henry (1775) Necessary through sons Thomas Jefferson and Joseph of Claiborne County, Tennessee (unrelated to descendants of Thomas (1755) Essary). Very rare in England or otherwise.
