Hi Janette
My mother-in law is Gisela, that nine year-old daughter mentioned in Wilhelm's letter. I was so excited to see the letters and have sent her copies to look at.
Gisela (now Salisbury) lives in Durban and is 88. When I asked what she knew of the connection to Archie she wrote the following.
"When we arrived in SA in 1935 Archie heard through the Church grapevine that a Pastor Luckhoff was coming to the Free State parish to Bloemfontein and got in touch with my Papa and discovered that they were related. The Luckhoff family in Germany were known for going to many parts of the world and I have in my possession a letter from a Pastor Luckhoff in Chicago who also contacted us and kept up a friendly correspondence for a while . We believed they were second cousins but I don't have any documentation to that effect. But my brother's third child Ralph became very interested in his forebears and has put it all in a book. He found Luckhoffs all over the planet and if she would like it I could put her in touch with him."
Ralph lives in Brisbane, Australia. He is the son of Wolfgang (that six year-old boy). They moved to Australia from SA in the early 1970s. Gisela doesn't have an email address for him but I see he is on Twitter and probably Facebook
Thanks for posting the letters, it was so exciting for all of us to see them.
Regards
Frances
