Update for Windows 10 users

Gaile Connelly posted the original warning by Microsoft in October of 2018. Here is her original post. Thank you Gaile! Today I have read a little more about this problem. Read the last 5 short paragraphs here Since the Blue Screen Of Death  and the unbootable state happened to me a couple of weeks ago, I tend to believe that this was the reason, I think that both warnings say the same thing, this update also includes the last 4 paragraphs which talk about the BSOD and the windows 10 update also turns computers with AMD hardware into an unbootable state. Seems like they still did not fix the problem because um I don't know, but doesn't that sound familiar to me?

I have one machine that runs Windows 7 but the others run Windows 10 and I was even running 10 before it was released, I am a "Windows Insider" so I test the software before the rest of you get it, and have not had any problems yet.

That update was withdrawn, and users who had updated were advised to contact Microsoft immediately for help recovering any lost files. It should not currently be a problem for anyone unless somehow you are still running update version 1809 instead of 1803. Still, there is no substitute for backups and no excuse for not doing them if you depend on the hard to replace data on your machine(s). I use Acronis (and have ever since I was tasked with evaluating image backup products by my previous employer). I use a two-layered automatic backup process: Monthy images to an external hard drive with weekly incremental backups, and a weekly backup to their cloud. I can restore individual files, or the whole shebang whenever I need to (I also keep current bootable USB restore drives that I update every 6 months or so so that I can boot minimal windows with Acronis restore from that to restore the rest. If you aren't doing something similar, you consider what you will do when your hard drive ultimately fails...

Having done some more research on this, I have to correct the statement that the October update is not available., on November 13, 2018 (see: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2018/11/13/resuming-the-rollout-of-the-windows-10-october-2018-update/ ) Microsoft resumed rollout of update 1809 but only to advanced users who choose to update manually and commercial customers. Automatic rollout to the general population seems to have started on Feb 1, 2019, with blocks for identified issues (3rd party device driver issues mostly); more info here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4464619/windows-10-update-history .
Rob  I appreciate your input. It is an informed opinion and well written. I got nailed with it pretty hard in January. I do not believe anything that Microsoft says. What they say is not worth the paper it is printed on. I do not update manually. Even when it occurred we contacted Microsoft and for what is worth, none of their helps ever worked. As for Microsoft help, well it is Microsoft. Windows 10 was just a bunch of whistles and bells made to look as good as other operating systems but it had problems before I even got it.  So I guess everyone has their opinion about Microsoft. Nobody is wrong, it is just an opinion. I wish you continued success with what you use.
