Hi Dan, welcome to WikiTree!

We have a few Help pages dedicated to sourcing that may be of assistance, Help:Sources and Help:Sources Style Guide.

In short, there are two primary (recommended) ways to add sources to WikiTree:

  • Using a bullet point (*) under the == Sources== heading (below the <references /> tag):

== Sources ==
<references />
* "US Census, 1900", database online. Home Township, Small Town, Washington, USA; pg. 100, family 10, dwelling 15, lines 150-157; June 1, 1900; National Archives Microfilm M-10, Roll 100.

  • By using inline references (embedded footnotes):

Some even say that "genealogy without sources is mythology".<ref>Lorine McGinnis Schulze,"[http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/articles/myth.shtml Genealogy without Sources is Mythology]," article on Olivetree.</ref>

If you have a source you would like to add, and want further help, please provide a link to the profile and the source information and someone can assist you with a real example!

So when you mean a bullet point, do you mean I just write in where I found the information? Example: Census or a death certificate, etc
Bullet point is that black dot before the actual citation.  You can make it using the little asterisk *.  When you save, it turns into a dot. A census, for example should look somegthing like that one Steven Harris gave in the answer above.
