Help with shrinking a Census Table

I am so pleased with myself that I got this far with a Census Table. I have yet to decide if this is the way I want to go with census information. In the meantime, the table is too wide and I don't know where to start shrinking it.

If some one could tell me how to make it all a bit smaller, and definitely narrower, I will be most pleased.

And where do I put the heading "Irish Census 1911 etc etc"

Thank you

Snag here is that RelationToHead is all one word.  It'll have to be shortened or split before the column can be made narrower, so that's the first step.  If you put spaces in, it can appear as 2 lines.
I think it looks fine as is.

If you break the headers a little, they're still readable.  (I tried it on one of the profiles I manage.)

Relation To Head goes to two lines.

So does Birth Place

Hyphenate Occu- pation

Another suggestion is to abbreviate and use a key to explain the abbreviations; such as fmr for farmer, rel for religion, etc.  (You already abbreviate retired (or it was abbreviated).)

Also, if you want a header "Irish Census 1911" you can add

|+ '''Irish Census 1911'''

between your !!Literacy and the following |-

|Mulcahy

(because anywhere else doesn’t seem to work)

I put a test on my Mother’s aunt’s profile. If you could let me know once you’ve seen it, I’ll remove it again.

ETA: actually, I tried something else to get the header where https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Table said it should go.  I added test #2 to Maggie's profile.

I don't know if you fixed it yet, but it looks just fine on my computer if I have my window full screen.

As far as the Heading, I usually put it above the table, not in it. I also mostly make it a sub-heading to the biography:

=== Irish Census 1911 ===

It fits (just barely) on my laptop, but does not fit on my tablet.  On the latter it "bleeds" into everything on the right.

No formatting advice. I copied your table for future profile use. Thanks!

That Peter, is a wonderful example of the blind following the blind. This was my first attempt and does need refining. But thank you for the vote of confidence.
