Help me find the dad on this census?

Question

Nancy Adeline Spivey. Her mother is listed as Emily J. Powers on the 1880 census.

I found this census below and trying to make sense of it. Is one of the men mentioned the father then? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Answer 1

Many researchers have her father as Archibald Spiva/Spivy and her mother as Emily Owens. There is an 1850 census for Stoddard County, Missouri that shows an Archibald Spivy with wife Emily and two daughters.

I would think the name "Spire" results from a misspelling or mistranscription of the name Spiva/Spivey and is not her mother's maiden name.

I found this 1880 Census record for Emily J Powers husband in Texas.  This would make C E Powers Emily J Powers’s husband and would mean Nancy was Catherine‘s sister.

As the mother’s name is Emelie not Emily I have since found this 1880 record which shows the one above is not the family being asked about.  See age difference for Emily and Emilie.
