Titia Bergsma, the first western woman in Japan, connected!

Last week the connection was made for Titia Bergsma, the spouse of Jan Blomhoff, Director of the Dutch trading colony near Nagasaki between 1817 and 1824. Against the wishes of the Japanese he brought his wife. Her picture was painted by many Japanese artists at that time.
