Do you have ideas for a WikiTree Print/Export tool?

I'd love to hear about your interest in a WikiTree print/export tool! Would you please take a minute to look at this new WikiTree free-space page created to specify our requirements for such a new feature for WikiTree at: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:WikiTree_Print/Export_feature

If you'd like to see a WikiTree Print/Export tool, and have some ideas of what should (or should not) be included, please add to this project page.

This freespace page can support future design and development of a WikiTree Print/Export tool--and it can be helpful in testing, especially when we describe details that can provide a comprehensive view of how we envision this tool working so it best meets our needs.

Thank you!

Sounds cool!

I agree with the comments made so far, and yes an export/print tool would be great. I like the idea of selecting options, so you can print a summary or you can print a bit more. I wonder if formatting of images (where they are placed) on to the export might prove a little problematic?

However it would be good to start somewhere, with a few options and try that out.

  • Ability to include a header/footer (WikiTree).
  • Date printed/exported info in footer.
  • Ensure terms and conditions/ disclaimer is included, i.e. for copyright materials you do not have permission to republish this information on another website; this printout is solely for personal use....

I will add this to the free-space page.

I like the biography option.  It would be nice to include in the bio. a list of children and their birth death years, e.g.
Children
1. John Doe (1755-1814)
2. Jane (Doe) Smith (1756-1840)
3. Sam Doe (1757-?)

I like being able to output as pdf and include a number of generations.

I am trying to make a family history book from wikitree and this would be a great help.

I would rather have the option of saving it to a file in text or .doc format since then I could modify it.
When printing a large number, I want an acceptable form to print directly. Maybe even put a Family-LIne in and batch print a whole family. If you are only doing one or two, manually formating would be great. Not if doing a large number.

Great Idea and nice work Cynthia.

I would like to see two working sheets something like compact family tree and descendant list with all the fields and maybe one line from the bio (research notes).

Thanks for your input, Richard! When you say you'd like to see two working sheets, do you mean two separate free-space pages? This free space page we've started for a Print/Export feature is more for the biography.
These would be two printable work sheets that you could use in your off line research or instead of jumping from one window to another while on line.

I would love a tool that would generate part of the sources tool I mentioned in my G2G Genealogy Help Post: A Tool To Use; It would contain the following column headers:  Name (last first), Birth year, Death year. It would contain my ancestors and their siblings, in any order, but by generation would be best. And the output should probably go into a txt file, a .doc file, or a CSV file.

For my use of it, I would upload it into Excel, then I would insert a Generation column (with me being 0) and fill that in.  Then I would add the following columns for sources: Marriage record, Education, Military, Photo, Other, 1790, 1800,.. 1850, 1860, ... 1940.  Next I go black out the squares where the column isn't applicable, like which census they could not have been on. Then I go through my sources and lightly color those columns that I have a source for that event, including birth and death (events now). So, Now I have a simple table of all the records I need to get sources for each person or find out if the sources don't exist like military records.

I would like to see Bibiography tool that would follow one of my family names or a selected set of profiles to extract the biographies so I could correct those that are partially there and maybe to combine them on free-space pages and simplify my source references. That could mean a table of Wiki-id versus sources. That could come out as a text, .doc file, or CSV file.
