There's plenty of time left in the Military Challenge, which runs until December 11th! If you're interested in joining, head on over to the link below and post an answer there:

While I was working on the Military Challenge, I discovered the story of Clifford John Abbott, an Australian soldier during the Second World War who was captured at the Battle of Rabaul and tragically killed when an American submarine destroyed his Japanese transport ship.

Have you written any outstanding biographies for military profiles, or discovered any incredible stories?  Post them as answers here!

The book about West Point graduates I am using starts at 1802.  It is very interesting to read about the different times.  For example, the civil war is called the Rebellion of the Seceding States.   I have also learned more about the Florida war, and the Mexican war than I ever learned in school.

I learned new things about some of the more famous officers as well due to the fact that the book is written from a purely historical aspect and no politics skew the information.  For example, several of the high ranking Confederate officers worked for a life insurance company in their later years.

There are also several families that have several generations of military service, starting at the revolution.  So far I have encountered Ethan Allen, his son, and his grandson.  There are several other families the same way also.
