Help please, this page is a duplicate, please make it go away? All cemetery residents are listed on the other page for this cemetery.

I've marked it for deletion.  Give it until the next Bot ckeanup and it should disappear.  Seems one entry had 'and' while the other had '&".

Great, thank you!
How does BOT know that the & and AND are not the same?

It might delete the wrong one. A better way would be to rename bad one and merge, leaving Bot out of it. Bot is not foolproof.
I told it which one to delete by marking it 'Delete Category'

Actually Bot is debugged and tested, It can handle & sign and does the job as it should be. The problem is, that users can't edit the category with & in it.

That was the case also here. According to log, Holy_Hope_Cemetery was deleted.

  • Processing Category: image Holy_Hope_Cemetery
    Last Save: Hvitfeldt-7, Gunther-113, Gunther-113, Gunther-113, Gunther-113, Gunther-113,
    Deleting Category:image Holy_Hope_Cemetery Done.

And it was deleted for the second time.

So let me explain, how to edit the category with & in name.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Holy_Hope_Cemetery_%26_Mausoleum%2C_Tucson%2C_Arizona

As you can see in category URL, & is replaced with %26 which is correct. After you click edit link changes into this.

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Category:Holy%20Hope%20Cemetery%20&%20Mausoleum,%20Tucson,%20Arizona&action=edit

Where %26 is replaced with & and misdirects WikiTree into editing category only up to & sign. You must manually replace & in URL to %26 and you will be editing the correct category.

Due to this problem, & shouldn't be used in category name. Each day I prepare a list http://www.softdata.si/wt/Cat/All_Separators-And_0.htm of all categories with & in name, and all of them should be deleted or even better renamed or merged into correct one. Here are Editbots instructions https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:EditBOT.

I get that, but the original post was asking that the Category with the & sign in it be removed completely as it has no profiles and is a duplicate of the one with the word 'and' which does have the profiles in it.

If the deletion is "done", isn't it gone?

No, because you marked category Category:Holy Hope Cemetery to be deleted.

I will mark it now.

It is better to use Rename or Merge, since it will correct categories also in the future.

OK, thanks Aleš.  I didn't understand that business with the & sign, but now I think I do.

Aleš,

Going forward should I just post a request to Merge the incorrect category name into the correct category name? Will that then transfer all the profiles into the new correct category?

Or I guess I can just mark the incorrect category to Merge:

{{Merge Category|Holy Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum, Tucson, Arizona}}

Is this correct?
That is correct. It will transfer all the profiles, subcategories and links to this category to a destination one. It will also merge content of the page.
Awesome, much easier and quicker than getting pm's to migrate/update categories on all unopen profiles ...thanks!
That was what I was saying Alex. With both named the same the correct one could be deleted if not renamed. When you substitute %20 for both & and the word AND. Renaming and merging is the best option.
