If you have an ancient ancestor who only went by one name, how should you create his profile?

I found ancestors so far back in a group that led to Johanna de Scrivens and the Slingsbys that my sources listed no surnames for them. Two people named Orm. I didn't think the program would accept an entry with only a first name, so I added the place name in one case (de Scriven) and another name (Auceps) which may be part of a title or may be a surname. I just don't know. When you reach the point where ancestors are identified by just a first name, what is the protocol for name entry for a new profile? (de scriven-1, auceps-2, auceps-3

This is a question that has come up a lot in the EuroAristo group.

Thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for. It also helped clarify the preposition before the last name situations.

The question arises also for people today in places in the world where a last name is not used, e.g. parts of Indonesia. To be a genuine world tree Wikitree needs a way to designate that no last name exists for these cases.

My recommendation would be Scriven for all of them.

There are two best bets either put unknown for last name, but best bet would be simply put the oldest known last name in the paternal line of that person.
