Looking for details on Mary Morrow <1783> married William White?

I am descended from David Thomas White, son of William White <1767> and Mary Morrow<1783>.  David is buried in NE Texas;  I have visited his grave.

His family information came to me from an obituary and a Find a Grave report, besides internet info.  William may have left his wife and gone with some of his children to Arkansas, where he died. Morrow and especially White are common names, so I'm not sure about the information I have.  I'd really like to know about the family of Mary and William.

Hi Susan,

Are you currently working on adding this side of your tree here on Wikitree? The reason I ask is because I am descended from the Whites of Hanover County, Virginia and I'm wondering if your William White's family was originally from there. I'm particularly curious because you list McClanahan as a tag and William McClanhan White is my great x 2 grandfather. Is there any connection do you think?

If you need any help with your branch feel free to message me anytime.

Susie :-)

Hello,

Thank you for your response.  I know my ancestor David Thomas White was born 1819, Morgan Co., AL.  His family may have come from VA.  I can't find a good connection for his birth parents.  David married Orlena Neely in the Morgan County in 1843.

Since censuses before 1850 don't show the children's' names I can't tell for sure about David's parents or siblings. William White and Mary Morrow are my best guess for his parents.  They married (1798-1799) in Warren Co., NC and came to Morgan Co., AL around 1815.

I don't know for sure that William went to AR.  White being such a common name doesn't make it easy.  He would have left his wife in AL where she died in 1858.

Records show that she died in Morgan Co., AL.  David and Orlena's first two children were born in the same county and the family moved to Thyatira, DeSoto Co., Mississippi where they had five more children between 1852 and 1863.  About 1870 the whole family moved to TX.  I have visited the historical society in Paris, TX and their graves in Tigertown.

You might try contacting my cousin, Liz Edmonds. She has a much better grasp than I do of the movements of the White family in Virginia and North Carolina so may be able to help, or know someone who can. Have you done a DNA test? That may also help as there is someone amongst the White cousins who focuses his research around genetic genealogy. Finally, have you been able to find any wills in the family. The know the North Carolina state archives has a fabulous collection of wills but don't know about the other states you mentioned. That's a great way to prove parentage in the absence of Census documents.

Good luck, Susie :-)
