I would have to say that after over 16 years of Genealogy Research..Familysearch...is a good "starter point" for those just beginning to look...BUT as someone else above said...there is A lot that doesn't "jive"...because Familysearch, allows additions of anyone's materials, family bibles, family trees, etc...with no verifications whatsoever required...at least this is what I've read over years of learning...from other certified genealogists...the IGI within, if a new researcher isn't familiar...is just wfhat it stands for, an..International Genealogical Index..and it is/was created by individuals just adding their informations....many times...just what they heard from older family members, or found on some random personal genealogy page of some person they may & probably don't even know. Sources are very much lacking in this particular area of IGI...now FamilySearch does have a lot of Important docs visible online including Census, land patents, and many other things, so is a good access for finding family members..if one uses the "accurate infos within the site. just my opinion
