Matchbot activity question?

I've just read up on the historic conversations on here about matchbot but I still don't understand how I've gone 8 months without even hearing about it to my daily wiki genealogy email being half matchbot proposed merges of surnames I follow and half rejections of those merges??

Even though these aren't profiles even remotely related to me (yet!) It does take some of the fun out of reading my update!

I opened one on the list today where wikibot had suggesting merging two profiles with the same name with different parents, wives and children and one lived Australia and one in USA?

Is there a reason for the seemingly huge increase in activity? Anyone else noticed this or is it just maybe the tags I'm following?
