I learned a couple of things from the Automatic Suggestions fo Place Names [closed]

On a profile I was editing the suggestions for Concord, North Carolina, United States made me aware that there were several choices with different County names. This is a good example of where we need to do our research and not just blindly accept whatever the first suggestion is. These suggestions are a good thing overall but are not designed to replace research and they can never replace the human in making the final decision. One of my favorite quotes from my college computer classes was when the professor said "remember a computer can, in the end, only tell you on or off, and they are almost smart enough to tell the difference"

It should not replace research but time is changing and computers are soon smarter than humans. Some say its the biggest existential threat.

Feels like Project database Error is already more intelligent than the unsourced genealogy research people... what will happen in 2017.... will Aleš start suggest sources ;-)

The trend right now in Silicon Valley is to speak about Universal Basic Income one reason for this is that more and more people realize that computers will do more and more work humans do and soon they will be more "intelligent" than humans ==> they will themselves do more intelligent software than we humans can do.... ==> what should people do??? How should we earn money?? Most people will never have a work to go to....

I see this change in the same way we had a big change 1880 in Sweden

  • then 1880
    • 4 out of 5 worked with farming
    • the train started to transport people
    • the last starvation was 186? in Sweden
    • people started to move to the cities and got work in factories
  • today
    • just a few work with farming
    • most factory work are moved away to other countries
    • robots can do the boring work 24*7
  • soon
    • self driving cars ==> 30% of all men in some states in the USA will loose the work with transportations
    • much more AI
    • not many people are needed to produce food and other things...

AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, A computer can only do what it is told to do by the program, and by extension the programmer. They are not smart and anyone who thinks that they are is just deluding themselves. I have built, programmed, and run Robots and CNC machines for years. I have also had to fix programs that caused the machines to do the wrong things because they were doing what they were told to do not what the human wanted them to do. As for the self Driving cars, there have been some fatal accidents recently that have been caused by those few self driving cars recently and I believe that it will be many years before they can be made as reliable and cost effective as humans, so don't hold your breath.  One of my courses in college was to design computer circuits based on what the input was and what output was required and all of those circuits were binary or simply put on off switches.
