Good Week End to All!

I hope everyone had a wonderful & productive week on Wikitree.

I spent the week adding sources to profiles for distant cousins & Magna Carta profiles.

It is finally cooling off in my neck of the woods, which I don't like very much.

On a brighter note....the One Name Studies project now has over 500 members!

What's new with you?

We are in the middle of the first big Winter Storm here in Northeast Ohio. A major Interstate Highway was closed in the eastbound direction early yesterday afternoon and remained closed all night due to a 50+ vehicle accident.  Where I live we expecting up to 18 inches of snow by tomorrow. We have all of our stuff moved into our new house but we still have a lot to unpack and figure out where we want to put stuff. I am taking my time with that and hope that by sometime in January I can set up an "Office" for my Genealogy "work" but for now I am not devoting a lot of time to research, just making simple edits while I get my home in order and continue to set up my new computer.

Hope things are going well following the move.....
The forecast was wrong, we got over 20 inches of snow.
In Georgia, if we got two inches more snow than forecasted, it would send everyone into a tailspin. Glad you got all your stuff in already, carrying boxes in out of the cold would not be fun!
We had about 30 inches total for the weekend but that is nowhere near the record for snow in one storm for this area, that one was 69 inches in 1996.

John Herschel Glenn Jr. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glenn-16 died yesterday.

I am so very sad. He was my hero. He inspired me to become a Submariner. I'll be trying to clean up His & his wife s Profiles (Anna / Annie Margaret (Castor) Glenn), if we can have some Collaboration please. I have adopted many abandoned John Glenn Profiles today.

JPV IV :)

John as the manager for his wife's profile I will add you to the trusted list if you send a request.  I have already sent in a trusted list request for his profile so we just have to wait and see on that one.  The find a grave link that you posted to Annie's profile is not for her as she is still living.
John was a very kind man.  I met him as a child and still have his autograph.  What an exciting life he led!
Awe.. didn't see about his death. I was wanting to become an astronaut myself until learning about the Challenger and then that you need be good with math & science (I suck!).
John and all others, I just got added to the trusted list for John and some of his other relatives so I will start to improve them as time allows.
Thank You cousin :)

We are in our final days of getting ready for our Christmas for underprivileged families. Here we are wrapping presents to be given at the local church Christmas party next week.

Along with presents each family gets a box full of groceries as well. This is a yearly event here in our community. And the weather is cold here in the mid south (USA), no snow however!!

Continuing on with my work on the database errors report. Seems like it is never ending!! Cleaning up profiles from recent merges, fixing family connections where child is born after mother passes away (incorrect birth or death dates etc).

Sounds like a terrific program.
Thank you for helping the less fortunate.
Well done for your efforts for your community....
Thanks Anne, Vincent and Chris!!

A busy week, but not in terms of family history. Been Supporting my Dad this week. Which included a trip to hospital. However he is home and on  the mend.

I have lots of avenues to follow up and had been looking into my connections to Goodyear family  - my great grandmother Sarah (Goodyear) King ( Goodyear-433) came from Stourbridge, Worcestershire.and looks as if there are still connections in the area.

Always plenty to do in  family history.

Have a good weekend everyone.

PS always interesting to hear about others and their research and about where they live........

Winter is setting in here, we have a dusting of snow in our part of Ontario, Canada.  Our house is decorated for Christmas and Christmas music blasting pretty much all day.  Our Christmas parade is tomorrow and if we have more than 5 floats that will be a very big parade, that is how big our little town is but full of spirit and will pull together when things need to be done.

I am having great fun doing Wiki stuff and getting used to merging,  pruning and correcting, if i see i can do it, i do it. So far the merging i have done has been with profiles with no managers (which i have adopted) so at least i am not upsetting anyone's work and it gives me practice and pleasure to be able to help in this way. These profiles also need to be cleaned, they were a gedcom upload and then forgotten, last entry for most of these were between 2011 and 2013.  I have also learned how to address the database error report which i am also making sure i keep my profiles clean except for the unusual name error - not sure how to address those yet.

My warmest acknowledgements to those who have been able to do over 1000 contributions in a month, repeatedly, this is one of my goals and if i do not reach it well at least i am doing what i can do.

Thank you for this opportunity, to share what i have been up to, it is not a topic warm to everyone's heart but exciting in our household.

take care all

Back from our Christmas parade and OMG it was a block long and it was wonderful.  We managed to see it twice coming out of the gate and coming back to the gate and I got to hug a beaver mascot.  It also snowed like crazy, I took pictures but not sure how to connect to here, but let me tell you that Santa was covered with the white stuff as with his little elf.

Before the parade i managed to get some time it at the Library where they have a free Ancestry.com Library edition.  What a resource to have  in our little town.  So now that i have more info i am going to try for 1000 contribution.  See how far i get with the excitement of the holidays fast approaching.

Ta for now

Nicole, my family has lots of unique names too. Here's how I handle that db_error

  1. Verify that good sources exist for the name; if not, find sources that verify name.
  2. Add a line or two at the beginning of the biography that explains the name, any history behind it, etc.
  3. On the db_error report, click "False Error"

thank you Debi - have a great week

I was figuring to take it easy this month in terms of genealogy, but I'm still on a pace to get 1000 contributions for the month.  The only kink is that I'm having cataract surgery on Thursday and I don't how much time I'll lose in recovering from it.  But supposedly it only takes a day or two before you can do things like sitting in front of a computer.  But no matter.  For now I'm enjoying entering a bunch of my Miller clan.  I have a 25 page outline descendent tree which I started several months ago but still only have about a third entered and I keep adding in spouses and spouses parents and adding several souces for each profile. I suppose I shall later be able to add at least as many sources without much trouble as I'm adding now so I'll probably go to my dad's Dardinger side next when I tire of my mom's side.  And I've got a DNA kit for my wife but I don't have her family entered in Ancestry.com so I'll need to spend some time doing that before I get her results in a few weeks.  And while I'm at that, I'm going to actually mark the profiles which are DNA confirmed from my test.  But first I need to enter the actual cousins who match with me.  So as you can see, I'm going be busy.

And, oh yes. it's especially bragging time weather-wise for Tempe!  We took a nice walk down the road and back and didn't need jackets nor were we too warm.

Good luck with your surgery Dave, My father just recently went thru that.  Take your time after the operation, your eyesight is much more important than contribution points on here.

Looking forward to learning how to do iron-on vinyl for shirts tomorrow after doing a short shift at the salon to help a friend out. Not looking forward to going out in the cold. I'm sure not as cold as up in Canada but will be in the 30's.. Yikes!

Here's to also making some more headway on the Dyess website and sourcing!

I am intrigued with how many children some of my ancestors had, especially by one who had 20, all single births.  Then when she died, when her youngest child was about 8, her husband remarried 6 weeks later.  He was a Quaker and got "dealt with" and then dismissed from meeting for remarrying too soon. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hallett-133 married to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jackson-2783

Is there a way of finding out which women had the most children -- I think they need to be honored in some way!!

Here in my part of GA, it just got cold enough a few nights ago to freeze the water in a bucket on my porch. I'm sure my kids would like some snow, though! This weekend I was able to connect my husband to the big tree. That was exciting because one of my genealogy goals is finding our most recent common ancestor.
