Served apprentice as shoemaker; moved to Quebec in 1810; went into business for about 4 years; served as a militiaman in the War of 1812; was given a grant of land of 100 (acres) at York; had script changed to Megantic township, Leeds County. After leaving Quebec went to Leeds County and started sawmill business, finally selling out after a short time and turned his attention to farming. VERY PROLIFIC!!! By his first wife, three children, one named Sarah, other two not known. Second Wife: Isabella Hargrave, born in Inverness Scotland, her father being a shepherd; came to Canada with the 100th Regiment; settled Inverness, Quebec. They had 16 children: Thomas, Zacharias, William, James B., Andrew, Isabella, Jane, Bessie, (Mary Ann), Catherine, Ellen, Caroline, names of others not known. Third wife: Mary Ann Cook They had nine children, 3 girls and 6 boys. [Zacharias fathered 28 children!!!!!} In the 1931 census, Zacharias Goff, George Hall and Matthew Jiggens were all very close neighbours.
