During the 1920s Anzac Day was a national day of commemoration for the more than 60,000 soldiers in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who lost their lives during World War I. Of the 331,781 Australians and 98,950 Kiwis who embarked, 215,585 (64.98%) and 58,526 (59.01%) became casualties (captured, missing, wounded or killed). "We will remember them."
Later, Anzac Day also served to commemorate the lives of Australians who died in the Second World War, and in subsequent years the meaning of the day has been further broadened to include those who lost their lives in all the military and peacekeeping operations in which Australia has been involved.
Please take a moment to remember all the Diggers who paid the ultimate price, those who paid a high and lasting price, and all those who served.
