Was it George Dixon who wrote the book on shells?

I have done a lot of research on this Dixon family, having founded the Great Ayton History Society in 2002.  I have a copy of "Land and Fresh-Water Shells" which I thought was by George Dixon, rather than by his son, Ralph, as you record.  The authors are given only as Dixon and Watson, 1858.  This Watson could be either of the brothers John William or Alfred?  In 1858 George would be 46 and Ralph would be 22 (wasn't he still at Bishop Auckland then?

Best wishes, Dr Ian Pearce, 1 Dikes Lane, Great Ayton TS9 6HJ, UK (ianandsuepearce@btinternet.com)
