It's National Parks Week in the US, so we're looking at people who have promoted and persisted in the development of national parks around the world.

Are you more closely connected to US President Teddy Roosevelt, promoter of national parks and eponym of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, or South African President Paul Kruger, promoter and eponym of Kruger National Park?

Teddy Roosevelt and George Grinnell are both at 15 degrees.  I was expecting the closest Roosevelt connection to be through his New Netherlands ancestors, but the closest path is through his wife, with lots of names like Tyler and Paine.  Going through New Netherlands adds just one more degree, and names like Gerritsen and Van den Berg.  Grinnell and Roosevelt were just 12 degrees apart.

Seven cousins this week.  Roosevelt is 6th 3 times removed.  Grinnell is 5th four times removed.  Special mention to Stephen Mather, whose namesake Camp Mather used to be within a vigorous bike ride of my home.  He's a 8th cousin 3x removed.
